What to bring

Walking shoes, sunscreen, swim suits, casual clothes for nightlife and fine dining, insect repellent, map of Nicaragua, sandals - sunglasses & hat, necessary medications, rain jacket, a pocket-size English/Spanish dictionary, a small first aid kit, binoculars - Digital or regular camera with film, passport, travelers checks - cash (in US Dollars only, Euro are never accepted here!) Credit cards, drivers license. 

Day 01: Arrival – Managua

Arrival at the International airport in Managua. Meet and greet by one of our representatives, transfer will be provided to the hotel for your first night in Nicaragua.

Day 02: Rio San Juan

Transfer to the airport. Then take a domestic flight to San Carlos.

 

Sabalos Lodge is an ecological hotel in the rain forest of the South Nicaragua. A unique eco-lodge within the private wildlife reserve in the territory of San Juan River and belongs to the buffer zone of the Indio-Maiz Biological Reserve. In addition to, this hotel provides its operation in the conservation and exploitation of natural resources in a sustainable and responsible such as the production of energy through solar panels, in turn, used the river water for irrigation of gardens.

 

Home to tropical rain forest ecosystems where the wildlife refuge, it is endangered and has an area designated for the activity of ecotourism. Has 73 species of flora that includes 36 species of forest trees, 10 shrubs, 13 species and 14 ornamental plants or cultivated fruit trees. There are also 11 species of mammals (7 species in danger of extinction), 9 species of birds (3 endangered species), 3 amphibian species (2 endangered species) and 7 species of reptiles (0 endangered species extinction).

 

Private fast boat transfer to Sabalos Lodge where you will spend the next 2 nights.

Day 03: El Castillo & Indio Maíz Reserve

In the morning Visit Indio Maiz National Reserve to walk through the jungle. Indio Maíz Biological Reserve is considered one of the best preserved natural reserves in Nicaragua. The area is located in the southeast corner of the country, bordering the San Juan River. The reserve encompasses 3,180 km², and it is home to a wide variety of rainforest animals.

 

Then go to El Castillo town, have lunch and visit the Fortress, which was built by the Spaniards to protect the city of Granada from the English pirates; even the famous Lord Nelson tried to conquer it. At the end of the day returns to Sabalos Lodge. Recommendations: Wear long trousers, wear boots or hiking shoes, wear a sunhat or cap, use sun lotion, wear sunglasses, bring insect repellent.

Day 04: Solentiname

Transportation by private boat from Sabalos Lodge to Solentiname.

 

Nature and art complement each other in an exceptional way on the islands of the Archipelago of Solentiname. Painters, sculptors and artisans are inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds them in this tropical paradise. The Solentiname Archipelago with its 36 islands is the product of volcanic eruptions. Since pre-Columbian times it was a sacred place for the indigenous.

Day 05: Hacienda el Respiro

Transportation from Solentiname to San Carlos by private boat to catch your flight back to Managua. Upon arrival private transfer to Hacienda el Respiro.

 

El Respiro´s unique setting offers both tranquility and communion with Nature. The lodge, combining modernity and colonial style (with the strictest respect for Nature) is located on top of a hill 350m above sea level, offering spectacular views of the surroundings area : Granada,‘the great sultana’, founded in 1524; Lake Nicaragua its Peninsula and isletas (small islands) and even as far as the other side of the lake distant of more than 60 km.

Day 06: Farm visit- Granada

Observe the farm´s daily activities such as : sowing, planting, harvesting, creating organic repellents and fertilisers and feeding the animals. We are offering various tours and treks for all levels, guided by local flora experts. There are treks through magnificent neighboring properties producing coffee and cacao.

 

After lunch, transfer to Granada  the nicest colonial city of Nicaragua.

Built by the Spanish conquistadors in 1524, Granada is the best place for tourism because of its beauty and colonial architecture, charming hotels and activities to enjoy nearby; Lake Nicaragua and the islands.

Day 07: Mombacho Tour & Coffee tour / Bird Watching on Lake Nicaragua

The Mombacho Volcano is one of the most prominent volcanoes in Nicaragua, located only 10 km from Granada. The ride uphill only is an adventure by itself. The incredible steepness of the volcano guarantees a spectacular ride.
At the Top of Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve lie 2 dormant craters in dense cloud forest. Well established trails and a Biological center make Mombacho an adventure not to be missed! Hike beautiful trails to appreciate the unique landscape of Nicaragua.

 

The Café Las Flores’  Coffee tour offer world class services and the unforgettable hands on experience of visiting a working coffee farm. Enjoy a tour through our coffee plantations and take part in the process of Café Las Flores. Afternoon Bird Watching on Lake Nicaragua
Bird’s lover will have the choice to spend 3 hours observing the amazing range of local and migrating birds right on the Peninsula of Asese of Lake Nicaragua on a fascinating electric and ecological boat closer, without noise and pollution left behind you, to discover bird habitat and to take the best photographs in the best conditions.

Day 08: Departure

Transfer to Managua International airport to catch your flight back to your country.
