What to bring

Walking shoes, sunscreen, swim suits, casual clothes for nightlife and fine dining, insect repellent, map of Nicaragua, sandals - sunglasses & hat, necessary medications, rain jacket, a pocket-size English/Spanish dictionary, a small first aid kit, binoculars - Digital or regular camera with film, passport, travelers checks - cash (in US Dollars only, Euro are never accepted here!) Day 01: Arrival - Granada

Pick up at the International airport in Managua or the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, Peñas Blancas. Transfer to Granada for your first nights in Nicaragua

Built by the Spanish conquistadors in 1524, Granada is the best place for tourism because of its beauty and colonial architecture, charming hotels and activities to enjoy nearby; Lake Nicaragua and the islands, Mombacho volcano with its natural reserve, Masaya and its folklore.

Day 02: Granada City & Isletas Tour

Join us in exploring and discovering the famous city of Granada, established in 1524 by the Spaniard Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba, the oldest colonial city on mainland America and considered one of the prettiest cities in Latin America. Visit relevant sites and colonial buildings as well as the San Francisco Convent and Church founded in 1524, which preserves some of the most interesting indigenous ceramic and statue collections. You will hear stories from real pirates, like the infamous Henry Morgan, and their adventures to civil war stories that burned toashes, sacked and destroyed the city several times.

 

We will also visit archeological treasures from Isla Zapatera, a primitive art exhibit and historical display, La Polvora Fort, a warehouse built in 1748 to keep gunpowder. We will  visit its old towers, which give you a beautiful view of the city. Xalteva Church and walls: Here the Spaniards met the Indigenous Xalteva population, from which it gets its name. This is the most antique part of Granada. The church was built during colonial times and because of its location, it was also used as a military fort.

 

Isletas Tour

Las Isletas consist of around 365 small islands where formed 20,000 years ago by a massive volcanic explosion! Today it is a unique place where prominent Nicaraguan have their vacation houses and a local fishing community makes its living. The nature is beautiful with lots of birdlife and amazing views of the volcanoes and Lake Nicaragua. Additional point of interest is  the spanish fortress built a in the 17th Century to stop pirate attacks on the City of Granada! These serene and rustic islands we will visit by boat, showing you all its secrets

Day 03: Mombacho Tour

The Mombacho Volcano is one of the most prominent volcanoes in Nicaragua, located only 10 km from Granada. The ride uphill only is an adventure by itself. The incredible steepness of the volcano guarantees a spectacular ride.

 

At the Top of Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve lie 2 dormant craters in dense cloud forest. Well established trails and a Biological center make Mombacho an adventure not to be missed! Hike beautiful trails to appreciate the unique landscape of Nicaragua.

Day 04: Morgan´s Rock

Private transfer to Morgan Rock Hacienda & Eco Lodge

 

Located just 20 minutes north of San Juan del Sur, we pride ourselves on our eco-friendly daily operations and lifestyle. Natural luxury on a private white sand tropical beach, stunning ocean-view bungalows, all within a 4,000-acre jungle define the Morgan’s Rock experience. A hideaway on a mile-long picturesque sandy beach, frequented year-round by nesting sea turtles. Nearly half of the vast property is a private reserve.

 

Sunset estuary kayaking

Take a short walk down to the beach where the estuary meets the beach. Paddle through the estuary and mangrove forest during sunrise or sunset in tandem kayaks for a view exotic birds and some much needed tranquility. Duration: 1.5 hours.

Day 05: Jungle walk

This hike is offered in the morning and afternoon. Leave the Lodge after breakfast or lunch and explore the various ecosystems and forests that Hacienda Morgan’s Rock offers. There are good chances to see monkeys, tropical birds, reptiles and other dry forest animals while hiking through dry riverbeds and nature trails. Learn about the different kind of plants and trees found in the nature reserve Duration: 1.5 hours.

 

Rest of the day free to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Day 06: Breakfast at the Farm & Sunset estuary kayaking

Breakfast on the Farm; food does not grow in supermarkets. Most of the products that we serve at Hacienda Morgan's Rock are produced on our Haciendas and you have the opportunity to learn all about it. This is called "Agro tourism".

Rise early and depart the hotel on a horseback or horse carriage. Milking the cows, picking up eggs and preparing a typical hearty breakfast at the house of the animal caretaker is the first part of the tour. We then visit all the animals, the various fields of rice, beans, and vegetables and finish with a visit to the butterfly farm and the flower gardens.

 

You return to the hotel after a visit to the fruit trees and a sampling of the fruits in season.

Day 07: Departure

Departure. Transfer to the International airport in Managua or Peñas Blancas border back to Costa Rica.
