Matagalpa
Fair Trade and La Reyna Goldmines (CBT)

The tunnels of old goldmines preserve the histories of the miners who for more than 30 years extracted gold in this area. Many years later, the inhabitants of Mina La Reyna stopped searching for the precious metal to grow “the golden grain”: coffee. This adventurous experience through the mine includes a walk in the water of the underground river where we can see stalactites, water-springs, unusual insects, crabs, and lots of bats. Afterwards, we will visit the community where people have traded working the mines for growing fair- trade coffee, an alternative way to improve their quality of life.
