This tour gives you the opportunity to see the Ruins of the Old Leon City, first capital of Nicaragua founded in 1524 by Spanish Captain Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba.

Differing from Granada, this city had to move to its actual location in 1610 due to a volcanic eruption. The Ruins of Old Leon City were declared World Site Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in the year 2000. Leon was the capital of Nicaragua for over 200 years, until it was replaced by Managua in 1851. Visit Leon’s Cathedral is the largest religious colonial building in Central America, the remains of the immortal and internationally well-known poet, Ruben Dario, are resting there. We will end our tour with a visit to the San Jacinto Thermal Muds, overviewing the impressive volcanic chain of Nicaragua.

Day 03: Juan Venado Island and Natural Reserve & Mangrove Forest

Knowing, visiting and enjoying the natural reserve of Juan Venado is one of the most unique experiences that Nicaragua has to offer. During the trip to the island (by motorboat), you will meet a variety of exotic birds, mammals, crabs and other Species, slowly navigating between the mangroves, which are typical for this zone.

You will visit a beautiful secluded virgin beach, with the opportunity to swim. If you are lucky, you will encounter crocodiles and the impressive Paslama Sea Turtle (only in season: August [February). Ever been in the Mangroves? We teach and show you! This is all nature! We look for bird life, crocodiles, craps, shells, iguanas and more! There are 3 types of Mangrove trees, local people and amazing beaches (you may swim!)

Overnight at El Convento, standard room. Breakfast included.

Day 04: Granada

After breakfast, drive south to Granada, arriving in the nicest colonial city of Nicaragua.

Founded in 1524 Granada is the oldest colonial city on the Isthmus; that heritage adds to the charm and character of the place today. Today's Granada is a delightful town, its streets are lined with Spanish-style houses with large wooden doors opening onto cool interior patios. A wonderful walking city, although some buildings appear to be on the verge of collapse, many others have been beautifully renovated and now function as restaurant, hotel, or residential home. A great way to get a nice overview of the city is by ascending the towers of the La Merced church.

Walk around the city on your own and enjoy delicious lunch at  “La Calzada”

Overnight at Los Patios, standard room. Breakfast included.

Day 05: Masaya Volcano, Arts & Crafts

Journey to Managua to admire the incredible Masaya Volcano, unique of its type in Latin-American. Shop for handicraft in Masaya. Visit an active and dormant smoking crater.

Visitors can peek over the edge at the Masaya Volcano, and look into the impressive crater, which is continuously emitting smoke and sulfur gases. From this central crater it is possible to start hiking to other craters or viewpoints. Then our driver will take you to the Arts Market where will have the opportunity to admire ceramics, woodcrafts, hammocks and Jewelry, Cigars, leather work & more! Before returning to the hotel, enjoy a scenic town of nurseries & flowers panoramic view of Apoyo crater lake.
